- How long will it take to receive a decision on
my application?
For visa application processing times please refer to
www.ukvisas.gov.uk.
- I am a regular traveller to the UK. Is there any
system under which my application can be expedited?
Yes. If you meet the criteria you may use the Fast
Track facility. All applications must be supported
by relevant documentation and submitted at the VFS office.
You can usually collect your passport within two working
days between 1500 hours and 1630 hours.
- Can I apply on behalf of a child?
Yes. You must bring the child's original birth certificate
when applying for their visa. If you are not the child's
parent then you will also have to support the application
with a letter of parental consent, a copy of evidence
of the parent's identity e.g. passport and a letter
from the child's school or college. However, the child
has to come in person to the application centre for
the Biometrics scanning to be done.
- Can I present my application by e-mail?
No, at present we do not have the facility for accepting
visa applications by e-mail.
- Can I send someone to lodge my application?
No. All the applicants have to come in person to the
UK Visa Application centre for the Biometrics scanning
to be done.
- Will I be interviewed?
Most applications are considered on the basis of the
details given on the visa application form and other
papers provided by you. In a small number of cases the
entry clearance officer will wish to interview you.
He will advise you if he wishes to do so.
- When may I collect my visa?
Passports can be collected between 1500 hours and 1630
hours at the VFS office from Monday to Friday.
- Can I send someone to collect my passport?
All applicants should collect their passport in person.
In case of emergencies or reasons such as illness, or
if the applicants are residing out of Addis Ababa, they
can nominate someone to collect the passport on their
behalf. A duly signed authority letter should be submitted
at the time of lodging the application. Collection by
the third party is at the sole discretion of the British
Embassy.
- Can I receive medical treatment while on a visit
to the UK?
If you do not normally live in the UK you will usually
be asked to pay for any treatment you might need. This
is regardless of whether you are a British citizen or
have lived or worked there in the past. The Department
of Health website has further details.
- Where can I get further information?
Further information on the policies and rules used by
the Entry Clearance Officer to assess your application,
along with other
information can be found on the UK Border Agency website.
- Do I have a right to complain if I am not happy
about something from your end?
